In today's world we constantly have different temptations and impulses coming in from different directions and places and statistics show that we are usually tempted by these impulses and act upon them. Recent surveys have shown that the average American spends 4 hours daily checking his email! It doesn't matter while we are surfing the internet, working or going for a walk.

We will constantly be bombarded with things that need our action like commercials, the next magic pill, something that interests us etc. Looking at these things and following up on them is not bad per se but they are bad in the way that they often distract us from our real goals and suddenly your whole day is gone without you even knowing where it went.

There are a lot of different ways to deal with this and even though you will still get tempted these tips will help you stay focused and driven towards reaching your goals. One of the most important things in avoiding these temptations to steal your time is to have very clear and definite goals.

But having clear and definite goals is not enough by itself. You need to make sure you have a very detailed reason for why you want to achieve that certain goal. After you know both your goal and the reasons why you are pursuing it, it is time to ask yourself what will happen and how you will feel if you don't reach that specific goal.

Now that you have both your result in mind and at the same time have compelling reasons why you simply have to reach your goals it is time for the final step in the process. The final step involves creating a detailed action plan of how you are going to reach your goals and succeed in pushing through all the different obstacles and barriers you are inevitably going to meet.

Following the above mentioned tips will make it a lot easier for you to avoid those temptations that keep popping up in front of you and want to lure you away and kill your time. Recognize that every time you surrender to one of these impulses you are going to be losing time and get further away from your final goal. Since you already know what will happen and how you will feel if you don't reach your goal, this is a really great way to keep focused and take consistent action.
